[ When he steps into the Welcome Hall, he looks around for a moment, searching. A wide smile spreads on his face the moment his gaze lands on her, and his steps are quick and eager when he comes over. ]

Hello! You were at Alfheim, weren't you? I just realised as I was heading here. Memory's a bit fussy.

[ He waves his hand by his head. ]

[ It's how chipper he seems that throws her. She looks him over like she's not sure what to make of him, but nods. ]

Yes, I was. I was in the same group as River.

[ It's all to make up for how awful he still feels about it. ]

Yes, that's right. Now I definitely remember.

She was very fond of you.

I... I'm glad I met her.

[ It's hard to talk about it, or her. ]

So are you her Doctor?

[ His smile shifts, from something fake to cover up how difficult this is for him, to something genuine. Small and almost teary, just without the wetness in his eyes. ]

That would be me.

She wrote this in her diary that she left for me.

[ Finally he reaches inside his coat and takes the letter out of the pocket. It's torn on one side, unsurprisingly, and folded twice so it wouldn't wrinkle.

He holds it out, his other hand slipping into his trouser pocket. ]

I didn't read it.

[ When she reaches out for it, the movement is slow, cautious. Her eyes flit from him to the letter, back to him. She takes it, but doesn't put it away, looking, for a moment, past him. Then she swallows before managing, ]

Thank you. It- it means a lot.

My pleasure.

[ And because this is all too much emotion for him for one day, with that, he turns away to leave. But halfway to the door he changes his mind and whips back around. ]

Oh, also!

[ He walks back almost the whole way in her direction, a hand raised and vaguely gesturing. ]

If you ever need anything, anything at all, you need only call. I don't know you that well, but I'd like to and, anyway, anyone she cares for, I care for. For the most part. With some exceptions.

[ Waves hand. ]

[He's about to leave as quickly as he came by- well, she isn't sure she blames him. In fact, it brings him closer to seeming like a person, shows that he still struggles with things. She nods, watching him walk away and then back. It might be funny, if the situation weren't what it is.]

Alright. I'll keep it in mind, exceptions and all.

[She doesn't quite know what those might be, but, all the same.]

[ He lightly taps his nose, points at her, and backs away towards the door. ]
